What will happen when Nintendo returns to the movie business?
In the year 1993, Nintendo fans were given a rare gift by their favorite company with a movie named Super Mario Bros. But sadly, the movie didn’t do well and the company lost millions of dollars. The Japanese company has not done any other movie in over 20 years. What will happen when Nintendo returns to the movie business?
Yes, you heard me right, according to the latest rumors our favorite company may re-enter the film industry.
Nintendo returns to the movie business hinted by Shigeru Miyamoto at E3, when he said:
“We’ve had, over the years, a number of people who have come to us and said ‘Why don’t we make a movie together—or we make a movie and you make a game and we’ll release them at the same time?’ Because games and movies seem like similar mediums, people’s natural expectation is we want to take our games and turn them into movies”
He added:
“I’ve always felt video games, being an interactive medium, and movies, being a passive medium, mean the two are quite different….As we look more broadly at what is Nintendo’s role as an entertainment company, we’re starting to think more and more about how movies can fit in with that—and we’ll potentially be looking at things like movies in the future.”
If Nintendo returns to the movie business, we can hope they turn to The Legend of Zelda or Metroid, as last year’s rumors of a possible Zelda TV show from Netflix created a lot of excitement among the Nintendo fans.
Let’s see if Nintendo returns to the movie business in the future, but I personally believe the company should give it a try once more. What about you guys? What do you think about it? Share your views regarding it in the comments section below.
