Verizon becomes the first US carrier to offer roaming in Cuba
Recently, the US reopened its embassy in Cuba after a few decades to improve the relationship between the two countries. The businesses in the United States will be benefitted from this partnership. Now, Verizon becomes the first US carrier to offer roaming in Cuba and also the first one to benefit from the improved relationship of two countries.
Javier Farfan, Verizon’s Vice President of cultural and segment marketing said:
“By offering international services while traveling in Cuba, we are making it simple and easy for our customers to stay connected wherever and whenever they choose.”
Verizon becomes the first US carrier to offer roaming in Cuba and setting up the international roaming is not that hard. The customers will require a World Device before traveling to Cuba and simply opt-in to the Pay-As-You-Go International Travel option. Verizon customers will be able to make calls, message and use internet while roaming.
The International roaming plan will charge users $3 a minute for voice calls, standard international messaging rates and $2.05 per megabyte (It’s too costly). Presently, Americans visiting the island must purchase a pay-as-you-go cell phone through state telephone company ETECSA to have cellular service (Data is not offered) on the island, or have a cellphone account in a third country.
Verizon becomes the first US carrier to offer roaming in Cuba and is providing roaming in a total of more than 225 countries. Only 2 million people in Cuba out of 11 million have a cell phone connection. The Cuban officials said that they hope to reach 60 percent mobile-phone access by 2020.
