Tesla Model S will come with a Ludicrous Mode and an upgraded battery

Tesla Model S

Tesla Motors announced that the Tesla Model S will come with a Ludicrous Mode and an upgraded battery. Due to these upgrades the Tesla Model S can go from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, which is comparable with some of the fastest cars in the world.

How the Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk described the upgrades to Tesla Model S coming with Ludicrous Mode and an upgraded battery?

“While working on our goal of making the power train last a million miles, we came up with the idea for an advanced smart fuse for the battery. Instead of a standard fuse that just melts past a certain amperage, which means you aren’t exactly sure when it will or won’t melt or if it will arc when it does, we developed a fuse with its own electronics and a tiny lithium-ion battery”

He added “The net result is that we can safely increase max amp throughout from 1300 to 1500 Amps. If you don’t know much about Amps, trust me this is a silly big number of Amps to be going through something the size of your little fingernail.”

Earlier, Model S P85D had an insane mode which lets it go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and now the Ludicrous Mode will let the car cover the same distance in 2.8 seconds. The battery of the Tesla Model S can be upgraded from the 85 kWh version to a 90 kWh version for $3,000, which can provide an additional driving range of 15 miles per charge.

A new base model with rear-wheel drive will be available for about $70,000, compared with the $75,000 all-wheel-drive version. For new buyers Ludicrous Mode will cost around $10,000 and will be available as a $5,000 upgrade for those who already own the Tesla Model S, the P85D.
