Starbreeze Studios will Unleash Its Virtual Reality Headset Called Project StarVR With Widest Field Of View
Swedish Game Studio Starbreeze will unleash its Virtual Reality headset called Project StarVR at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Starbreeze earlier developed Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Payday series and now they have shown demo of its Virtual Reality headset, which will work in conjunction with the Valhalla Engine to display Overkill Software’s forthcoming shooter based on The Walking Dead.
Project StarVR began after the Starbreeze’s acquisition of French Virtual Reality Company InfinitEye, which had been developing its VR concept called InfinitEye HMD since 2012. StarVR boasted a wide 210-degree horizontal field of view which will provide the widest field of view as compared to other Virtual Reality headsets, along with a resolution of 5120×1440, thanks to its dual 5.5-inch Quad HD display panels.
With a combination of magnetometers, optical tracking system, accelerometers and gyroscopes Project StarVR will feature complete position and orientation tracking. They also displayed a video teasing a shotgun prop that was being tracked positionally.
While unleashing the Virtual Reality headset, Bo Andersson Klint who is the CEO of Starbreeze said “The landscape of entertainment is rapidly transforming. Experiences are moving from linear to user-determined, pushing storytelling to responsive and inclusive formats. The virtual reality setting allows us to completely immerse our players in our games. Starbreeze is on the frontier of VR development and we see it as a new platform ready for AAA experiences in games such as Overkill’s The Walking Dead.”
He also said” Virtual Reality is here to stay and will skyrocket the world of entertainment to a completely new level. At Starbreeze, we are set to be one of the frontrunners of this ground breaking development, bringing the next generation entertainment experiences to reality.”
