After the launch of Google Cardboard VR headset, other companies have been trying to sell its clones. Many of its clones cost more $20-30, but paying that much for a piece of cardboard can be a bit silly. But the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, OnePlus is offering Google Cardboard VR headset for free, which is a modified version.
The VR headset, which OnePlus is offering free is called OnePlus CardBoard. One Plus officials said “This is not a product; it’s an initiative. We aren’t making any money by offering OnePlus Cardboard. In fact, we are losing money with each one.” The OnePlus Cardboard VR headset being offered by OnePlus costs $0 but the customers will have to pay shipping cost of $5.
The difference between Google Cardboard VR headset and OnePlus Cardboard VR headset:
According to a report, the main difference between the Google Cardboard VR headset and OnePlus Cardboard VR headset is that the headset offered by OnePlus is 20 percent smaller than that of Google’s, made of a thicker material and also comes with a dirt and oil resistant coating.
OnePlus officials claim that OnePlus Cardboard VR headset is more accessible than a Google Cardboard VR headset, and said “In typical OnePlus fashion, we didn’t just sit around and talk about how it (Google Cardboard) could be better; we made our own. In addition to the Cardboard 2.0 features, we’ve made a few more improvements.”
The announcement of OnePlus offering Google Cardboard VR headset for free comes ahead of OnePlus’ upcoming Smarphone i.e. OnePlus Two which will be rolling out worldwide on July 27. The specs of OnePlus Two have not been announced officially, but it will apparently sport a display of 5.5-inch LTPS LCD protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4, 4GB of RAM.
