Marcus Mariota’s incredible 87-yard touchdown

The Tennessee Titans are grateful they play the Jacksonville Jaguars at least once a year in Music City.

Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota (#8) started and completed 20 of 29 passed for 268 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception as the Titans outlasted the Jaguars 42-39.

According to oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag, the Titans are favored at home in this game, as they are getting odds of -2.5 points against the Jaguars.

“I think he is going to win a lot of games,” Mularkey said of Mariota.

BORTLES’ FRANCHISE MARK: Bortles now has 27 TD passes this season for the Jaguars’ single-season record.

The Jaguars need to be able to convert their chances into points with more efficiency if they are to pick up more wins. He would kick four, but also miss the extra point on the Jaguars’ final TD. However, David Bass batted down Bortles’ pass, costing Jacksonville four points.

Eddie Lacy, RB, Green Bay – After back-to-back 100-yard games, the Packers practically ignored Lacy and he ended up with a total of one yard on six touches. Bortles threw his final TD pass to give Jacksonville a final shot before he was sacked on fourth down with 2:02 left.

When you look at Sunday’s 42-39 loss to the Tennessee Titans, you’ll notice that there is a lot to like for the Jacksonville Jaguars in box score. It’s closing these games out.

The Jags cut into the Titans’ lead to make it 21-19 with 4:52 left in the third quarter, when Bortles rolled out to his right to find Robinson for a 1-yard touchdown.

The Tennessee passing game finally emerged with a Mariota to Dorial Green-Beckham connection to the tune of five grabs for 119 yards and a score. The Tennessee Titans ground game is averaging 102.9 yards per contest, and Antonio Andrews leads the way with 466 yards and three touchdowns.

Cornerback Davon House’s interception at the Titans’ 34-yard line after the ball bounced off Green-Beckham’s hands set up the Jaguars’ second touchdown.

That was just the first in an insane stretch when these teams traded TDs; only Chicago and Detroit combined for more fourth-quarter TDs with seven on September 30, 2007.

Cignetti was quarterbacks coach for three seasons and was promoted to offensive coordinator in February after Brian Schottenheimer became offensive coordinator at Georgia.

Prior to this Week 14 showdown, the Titans offense ranked 18 in rushing yards (102.9), 25 in passing yards (224.2), 26 in points scored (20.4), and a whopping 28 in total yards per game (327.2). It looked like another fourth-quarter collapse would be in the offing for the Titans, who have lost four games in which they had fourth-quarter leads this year. Meanwhile, the Titans defense continues to play at a high level while Mariota is starting to come into his own with six touchdowns in his last two contests. “We’re a really good team and we’ve been close”, Titans wide receiver Kendall Wright said.

The Titans managed to extend their lead after a snap flew over Bortles’s head and Zack Brown recovered the ball in the endzone to score the defensive touchdown.

The other two linebackers they brought in for tryouts were Mike Mohamed, who was cut by the Saints on November 10 and spent time on the Jaguars practice squad in 2012, and Jo-Lonn Dunbar, who was cut by the Saints on November 23.

“It’s all about rush and cover,” coach Gus Bradley said Monday.

Mariota’s 87-yard TD run is the longest in the National Football League this season, and tight end Delanie Walker said everyone had been waiting to see the rookie run. Terrelle Pryor had a 93-yard run in 2013 for Oakland against Pittsburgh and Colin Kaepernick had a 90-yarder for San Francisco against San Diego in 2014….

The Titans have had trouble playing complete games all season, yet it hasn’t affected Mariota’s ability to out-perform the competition.
