Macy’s to Rent 85000 Staff for Vacation Buying Season
In some cases, seasonal workers may be offered year-round positions based on their skills and performance over the holidays, the company added. Its shares are down nearly 10 percent over the past year.
Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M) said Monday that the company plans to hire about 85,000 seasonal employees this year at its Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores, call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers.
The hold-steady approach comes as the retailer is working to better respond to shifting consumer tastes and habits, including scaling back under-performing stores.
“Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s customers have come to appreciate the higher level of our staffing and service throughout the Christmas and holiday shopping season”, said Terry J. Lundgren, Macy’s, Inc. chairman and chief executive officer. Many positions require work during the evenings, weekends or overnight, Macy’s said. Kohl’s Corp also intends to add greatly to its staff by employing 69,000 more.
The retailer is bringing in the seasonal workers for temporary jobs in order to meet increased demand during the busy holidays.

Last year Macy’s planned to hire about 86,000 seasonal workers during for the 2014 holiday season, up from about 83,000 a year earlier.
Macy’s stated on Monday that about 12,000 positions can be based mostly in direct-to-consumer achievement amenities in areas resembling, and. “This enhanced staffing allows us to provide additional help to customers, whether they are shopping in stores or online”. 1,600 openings will be dedicated to customer service personnel to cater for the huge number of customers during the holiday season.
More than 1,000 people will be hired across the country to support the 88th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Santalands and other iconic holiday events.
“These seasonal positions represent much-needed jobs for America, and they fill an important niche in the employment spectrum”, Lundgren said.
