Kids who love science gathered at Fido Purpur Arena in Grand Forks on Sunday to experience science first hand. According to participants, the activities offered at the event were super fun! This event is held by the Dakota Science Center every year.

Dakota Science Center Director Laura Munski said that this event was the only STEM event in the area (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The event’s activities all represented these fields at the Sunday event where volunteers from various departments, local law enforcement and science and technology organizations attended.

Munski said that getting the youngsters interested in STEM at an early age was very important.

One of the participants was 11-year-old Tanner Schiller was interested in Science, according to his mother, Katie, while watching him joining various activities in the said event. According to her, he attended a couple of Super Science Day events.

One of the activities offered was that at the table of UND Electrical Engineering Program wherein participants were pitted versus one another. Once a headband with sensors (that can read electricity passing through the foreheads) was donned, a kid would start thinking and keep on focusing. The activity measured the brain activity that also became the energy, traveling to a platform, which is then pushed into a small device to and from the platform.
