iRobot Braava Jet 240 Made Especially For Your Bathroom Floors

iRobot is best known for its line of Roomba vacuums. Now, the Massachusetts-based company is expanding its line of floor cleaners, to include a cheaper mopping bot – iRobot Braava Jet 240. This is particularly designed for bathroom and kitchen floors. The new tiny bot by the company can also be used to clean homes festooned in tiles and hardwoods.

What are the size and weight of the new Jet 240?

The new small mopping bot, measures 6.7” x 7” x 3.3” and weighs only 2.7-pound. It’s small enough to properly clean hard-to-reach places, like under kitchen cabinets and around toilets.

How iRobot Braava Jet 240 works?

The company’s new moping robot is specially designed to clean your bathroom and kitchen floors. The Braava Jet 240 offers three different modes for cleaning floors – Wet mopping, damp sweeping, and dry sweeping. Each mode has its own unique cleaning pad.

The new mopping robot is clever enough to select the cleaning mode itself. You don’t have to manually select the mode as there isn’t any button for that. It has only one button that is used to turn on or off the robot.

The new Braava has an optical sensor on the underside that can detect the different replaceable cleaning pads attached to the bot. Both the wet and damp modes make use of the Braava’s water nozzle to spray the area in front of it.

But before using these modes, you’ll have to fill 150mL of water reservoir of the bot. The cleaning agent in the wet and damp pads will be activated only when the water is filled in the water tank. Once filled completely, it’ll be enough for 200 square feet of dry cleaning or 150 square feet of wet and damp mopping.

Wet Mopping Cleaning Pad of Jet 240 uses Vibrating Cleaning Head3 and a triple-pass cleaning pattern to tackle dirt and stains. It leaves a fresh, clean scent after cleaning the area. The best thing about it – It won’t harm your furniture and walls as it can easily detect them.

The new iRobot Braava Jet uses a bumper to detect objects and 4 cliff sensors to map and track where it has been. The new Braava Jet will cover your floor one quadrant at a time, like a Zamboni, which will slowly circle the objects it comes across.

What are the shortcomings of this new mopping robot?

The iRobot Braava Jet 240 isn’t as smart as the Roomba 980. It doesn’t have sensors that make it smart enough to charge on its own. It’s basically a one-room-at-a-time cleaner, which you’ll have to charge yourself.

Another shortcoming of Jet 240 is that it can’t be controlled via mobile app or remote and cannot be connected to a Wifi connection. You’ll have to be physically present to charge the robot or change the cleaning pad to select different modes.

How much does it cost?

iRobot Braava Jet 240 costs only $199 and you can order it right now. The bot will be shipped with a bunch of replaceable cleaning pads. When you run out of those, you can purchase a box of 10 pads costing about $7.99. It’s a cheap robot that can attract apartment dwellers having smaller rooms or to those who can’t afford to buy expensive robots.
