The popular image-sharing social network owned by Facebook, Instagram gets a colorful makeover.
Instagram’s new icon is pink and yellow and purple and orange. But, it’s definitely different. And that’s not the only thing that has changed.
Instagram has also rolled out a radical redesign of its mobile application, which not only includes the new logo, but also a revamped user interface with a black-and-white look and feel.
Instagram Gets a Colorful Makeover, But Why?
Instagram wants to reflect in a better way how its community has changed over time.
When Instagram was founded over 5 years ago, it was a place to edit and share photos.
But over the years, things have changed. Now, Instagram is a diverse community of interests where people share photos and videos using new tools like Layout and Boomerang.
The new icon still refers to Instagram’s history with its all new simplified and softer camera which appears in a much more colorful design.
Also, the colors that blend and blur from purple to pink to orange and yellow are supposed to refer to Instagram’s iconic rainbow in its older design.
Instagram also wrote in a blog post that as part of icon makeover process, the team asked people at the company to draw the Instagram icon from memory in 5 seconds. And almost all of them drew the lens, rainbow, and viewfinder.
Other Changes
Instagram’s new icon is now filled with color, however, the app itself has had the color removed. Yes, app’s new design is black-and-white and now the color in the app will come from the community and what’s being shared.
Other than that nothing has been fundamentally changed with regard to the app’s workflow. The buttons are in the same positions, and pops of color are still shown to highlight things.
Some Slight Under-the-Hood Changes
Now, Instagram uses standard Android and iOS components, fonts and patterns.
But the app itself is simply a cleaner, more modern version of the Instagram we all know and love. And the process of using the tools has not been changed.
However, the icon’s update is dramatic and Insta lovers will get used to it soon.
