Group Calling on Facebook Messenger: The Next Offering of Mark Zuckerberg
After the onslaught of bots, group calling on Facebook Messenger is the next big thing for Facebook users. According to Messenger Chief David Marcus, the feature is coming to Messenger’s iOS and Android apps.
What is Special About This Group Calling on Facebook Messenger
This group-calling feature will let you make group calls with up to 50 people over the internet. Once the feature is live, a phone icon will appear in the top right corner of your group conversations.
To make a call, just tap the Phone icon and select the group chat members you want to include in the group VoIP audio call. Then, the selected people will receive a Messenger call simultaneously.
However, if you miss the initial call but it’s still in progress, then you can tap the Phone icon in the group chat to join the conversation.
Another feature is you can also see participants of the call when you’re calling in a group.
However, no group video calling yet, but you can expect that to come eventually.
No doubt, Facebook Messenger has become even more powerful with group calling. Yet, it still can’t compete with Skype for video calls, Slack or Google Hangouts – all of them support free group calling.
Does Facebook want its Messenger to replace other mobile apps?
Messenger with millions of monthly active users, is fast becoming one of Facebook’s most successful products. Every now and then, the company has been adding new features to capitalize on its huge audience.
Most of the features are designed to keep people glued to Messenger. That includes fun mini games like chess and basketball, a Venmo-like payment feature, and the recent addition of artificial intelligence-powered bots.
So, when you don’t feel like typing next time, just make a call with the Messenger that too for free.
