Most of people normally search for disease symptoms on Google before visiting a doctor to have an idea of what they are suffering from. Now Google updates health condition feature to make it easier for all of us to search information on more than 900 diseases.

The search engine giant said it figured out that people require this feature when in August; New York City saw an outbreak of Legionnaires disease, a rare and deadly form of pneumonia. Due to the outbreak, people started searching about the disease and search inquiry increased a thousand fold.

Prem Ramaswami, a Google Product Manager, said in a blog post:

“Health conditions continue to be among the most important things people ask Google about, and one of our most popular features…We’re making sure to include neglected tropical diseases, a set of infections that affect over 1.5 billion people including 500 million children in poorer regions.”

Google updates health condition feature and according to the company, nearly one in twenty searches on Google is done for health-related information. The company said that in the coming weeks, you’ll get information on more than 900 health conditions. You’ll be able to quick info on symptoms, prevalence, treatments and lot more.

The search giant is also working to enhance visual design and improve specific triggering so that you will can quickly and easily get the info required. For instance, if you search for “pink eye symptoms,” you’ll be directed straight to the symptom tab. You will also be able to take a print out of information for a doctor’s visit.

Google updates health condition feature with more than 900 diseases and is currently available to US users in English only. But in the following months it will be available in other languages and regions also.
