Facebook tests online store ‘F-commerce’
Facebook has been testing its F-commerce feature once again that would allow small and medium businesses to get in touch with their customers. It will help them browse and purchase directly on retailer’s Facebook page instead of routing them to another website. Facebook is the second most visited website and has 1.44 billion active users every month. This would make easy for small and medium businesses to expand their market reach.
Facebook product marketing manager, Emma Rodgers told Buzzfeed news, “With the shop section on the page, we are now providing businesses with the ability to showcase their products directly on the page.” According to the portal, the new section ‘Buy’ button would be included among its other specialized features.
The feature is expected to be included on mobile phones as a separate shopping tab just the way it will visible on desktop. This tab will enable the businesses to showcase their products and services on their Facebook pages just the way they would normally do on any other shopping portal. Though the company hasn’t disclosed any details regarding testing of the new section but the strategy is to attract more advertisers and boost revenue instead of charging from retailer’s earnings.
Facebook might be testing this new feature with selective businesses but the news is that soon it will be open for other retailers as well. The social networking site is quite devoted in its new expansion plan and may come up with new updates and features.
It’s not the first attempt by Facebook to introduce this feature but in April 2011, Gamestop opened a Facebook store along with few more retailers but didn’t turn out to be a prolific effort. But presently the way online shopping is trending globally, every brand wants to get hold of this opportunity. In such a condition, brands like Facebook and Twitter are keen to diversify their portal reach and at the same time earn more revenue. Facebook is not the only one to come up with this feature as Pinterest has already introduced feature named ‘Buyable Pin’.
