After making its way to Windows 10 tablets and PC’s and launching new cloud security features, Dropbox is now heading back to school with Dropbox Education.

While it has offered Business and Pro plans for their users, the educational field has been left out of its plans.

But this announcement will definitely make sharing files a bit easier for some educational establishments.

How is Dropbox Education different from Dropbox Business?

Dropbox for Education is a quite similar to what Dropbox provides for businesses.

The only difference is in the pricing structure. Dropbox Education director of education Jason Katcher wrote in a blog post that Education package comes at $49 per user, per year, with a minimum of 300 users and volume discounts are also available.

Each user gets 15 GB of space, that can be pooled together for a total of 4.5 TB.

In comparison, Dropbox Business is priced at $12.50 per user, per month, with a minimum of 5 users and unlimited storage.

Security Features

Dropbox provides many of the same security features that it provides to the Business side.

You will get 1 central Admin Console to manage users, set up permissions, and monitor activity.

You’ll be able to share files with other Dropbox users, as long as the Admin hasn’t restricted file sharing.

Both the versions have unlimited version history, but with the Education package, it’s only available for a year.

In Brief

The new Education version is currently available for educators who want a better way to share and collaborate.

However, it would be nice if Dropbox also offers a special rate for students and teachers, for individual accounts.

But it doesn’t help individual students if the school hasn’t signed up for this program.
