The world’s leading drone maker unleashed DJI Zenmuse X5 And X5R cameras at the Interdrone Conference in Las Vegas. In February, DJI joined the MFT (micro four-thirds) alliance, a group established by Panasonic and Olympus to promote the MFT standard.
DJI Zenmuse X5 And X5R Cameras are noted to be the world’s first aerial cameras featuring M4/3 (micro four-thirds) sensors. They are designed to work seamlessly with the DJI Inspire 1 and are capable of capturing 4K images and video recording.
Moreover, they also feature interchangeable lens system, which is compatible with 4 lenses from a variety of manufacturers. It includes the Panasonic Lumix 15mm G Leica DG Summilux f/1.7 ASPH lens, the DJI MFT 15mm f/1.7 ASPH lens, the Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.8 lens and the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12mm f/2.0 lens.
Features of DJI Zenmuse X5 And X5R cameras:
Both the X5 and X5R can capture 16MP photographs and record 4K-resolution videos at 24 frames per second with 12.8 stops of dynamic range. But the X5R can also record videos in CinemaDNG raw format to a removable 512GB SSD mounted on the gimbal’s top plate. The video bitrates of X5 tops out at a 60Mbps, whereas for the X5R it averages 1.7Gbps.
Both cameras are capable of capturing MOV and MP4 video; DNG raw and JPEG photos to a MicroSD card. Different shooting modes of the cameras include manual, aperture-priority, shutter-priority and program. The sensitivity range is selectable from ISO 100 to ISO 25600.
The Zenmuse cameras can be attached to the 3-axis gimbal found on the Inspire 1 drone, providing aerial stability and long exposure shots for up to 8 seconds. The DJI GO app can be used by users to see a live HD view and even control the focus and aperture of the camera.
