There are many rumors in the market that suggests that the South Korean giant is working to build Samsung Turtle Glass, which could be an alternative to Gorilla Glass.
Samsung has not officially confirmed about Turtle Glass, but it has been sighted in Korean government agencies already. According to a report by Sammobile, Samsung’s display division recently issued a registration for a protective glass technology in the Korean Intellectual Patent Office.
Corning Gorilla Glass is the most commonly used protective tempered glass for smartphones and tab displays. Samsung has been working in collaboration with Corning for a while now, but it seems that the two companies may part ways.
Samsung Turtle Glass application:
It could have many applications in smartphones, TVs, watches and other products as well. It may be possible that Samsung could use the new display glass in Galaxy S7.
Samsung likes to do things on its own, like it made its own Tizen OS, Exynos – ARM based System-on-Chips (SOC’s) and much more. It also makes its own displays, but has not yet made the protective glass, shielding smartphones screens from scratches and low intensity falls.
As of now, Samsung Turtle Glass is only a patent and not an actual product. The timing of the rumors couldn’t be more perfect as Samsung is reportedly working to make a foldable device, which might release next year. The foldable smartphone/tab dubbed as “Project Valley” would need a special kind of protective glass, which is both flexible and durable.
