Adam Jones fined $35K by National Football League ; Bengals CB plans to appeal
Jones got in a scrum with rookie wide receiver Amari Cooper, and in the back end of the incident, Jones ripped off Cooper’s helmet and proceeded to slam his head into that helmet. Way too much for a football play.
Jones took to SportsCenter today to announce that he will appeal the fine.
The Raiders received good news on quarterback Derek Carr after his Monday morning MRI on his right hand revealed simply a bruise.
Not everyone thinks Jones should go unpunished, though, including Mike Pereira, a former National Football League vice president of officiating who is a Fox Sports analyst.
“It was clearly way over the line”.
“There seemed to be enough eyes on the situation”, Del Rio said. Ask me! Yeah, I was fined. 35K. “I’ll be through this”.
“It’s a physical game, so you kind of expect it”, said Cooper. Still, Cincinnati’s safety is in his fourth season and is an emerging star-he has to know better than to stomp around a writhing receiver after a big hit. “Things like that happen”. “I do not need to harm my workforce in any type or trend; however I’ve to ensure I shield myself, too”. Cincinnati does not have great depth at cornerback and if Jones were to be suspended, it would be facing the San Diego Chargers this week with only Leon Hall and Dre Kirkpatrick as reliable corners. He completed a club-record 20 consecutive passes while closing out a 33-28 win over the Lions on Sunday, four completions shy of the National Football League record.
Jones admitted he made a mistake but said he plays with passion and won’t change. “It’s going to be interesting”.
Left tackle Andrew Whitworth and cornerback Leon Hall were limited Wednesday but not injured.
Hardison and Shaw also were on the injury report last week and were inactive for Sunday’s game. The headset scandal allowed the Patriots to start this season exactly as they finished previous year.
