Facebook New Friends Icon and Facebook New Groups Icon reflecting gender equality has been unveiled
Few days back Facebook new logo was unveiled, now Facebook New Friends Icon and Facebook New Groups Icon reflecting gender equality has been unveiled.
Who redesigned Facebook New Friends Icon and Facebook New Groups Icon?
Caitlin Winner, a Facebook designer redesigned the Facebook New Friends Icon and Facebook New Groups Icon explains how she brings women to the forefront. She said “As a woman, educated at a women’s college, it was hard not to read into the symbolism of the current icon; the woman was quite literally in the shadow of the man, she was not in a position to lean in.”
She added “My first idea was to draw a double silhouette, two people of equal sizes without a hard line indicating who was in front. Dozens of iterations later, I abandoned this approach after failing to make an icon that didn’t look like a two-headed mythical beast. I placed the lady, slightly smaller, in front of the man.”
What are the changes in new icons?
Friends Icon previously had the female silhouette in the background, but in the Facebook New friends Icon both the woman and the man are alongside each other.
The previous groups icon displayed one woman and two men and one of the men was in the front. Whereas the Facebook New Groups icon displays the woman in the front and two men in the back. Caitlin Winner also said that she didn’t face any criticism from the male employees once she finished redesigning the Facebook New Friends Icon and Facebook New Groups Icon.
