Google- The Search Engine Giant announced on Friday that they will be unleashing “YouTube Gaming“-A new live streaming gaming service to challenge Amazon’s Twitch service this summer starting in the US and UK.
YouTube Gaming will be available as an app on both android and iOS and also as a dedicated website meant to be a home for gamers where they can get access to all gaming videos both on demand and live streaming.
More than 25,000 games will apparently have their own landing pages for the gaming videos besides YouTube content creators and channels from game companies. To get quick access, users will be able to add games to their collection, receive recommendations on latest games based on the subscription of their channels and games they follow.
Google in a blog post said “When you want something specific, you can search with confidence, knowing that typing “call” will show you “Call of Duty” and not “Call Me Maybe.”
At the press event in LA studio, Ryan Wyatt– YouTube’s Global head of gaming content said “YouTube is the best video game site there is. But we’ve never built gamers the experience they deserve.” He added that YouTube Gaming is built from the ground up for gamers by gamers and promised that gaming will no longer be lost in a sea of content.
While YouTube is the king of online video, broadcast and livestream, gameplay has been dominated by Twitch which boasted around 100 million viewers each month last year. A year ago, Google reportedly attempted to buy Twitch, but the deal could not be signed due to some reasons and Amazon acquired it for $970 million.
Twitch also tweeted a welcome message to its rival, saying, “@YouTubeGaming Welcome Player 2. Add me on Google +. #kappa”
